White House Appeals to High Court Following Failed Attempt to Halt Food Stamp Payment Order
Last Friday, immediately following a US appeals court decided that the administration is required to fully fund nutritional assistance benefits, the White House turned to the US top court in a new bid to halt the directive.
A short time later, the highest court issued an urgent ruling immediately suspending complete food stamp benefits, which nearly 42 million people count on to feed their families.
“Our attorneys persist in working, continuously, to defend and advance the president's priorities,” a senior official declared on digital channels around 9:30pm ET.
Administration officials had asked the appellate court to stop a court ruling requiring them to provide November’s complete Snap payments during a US federal government shutdown, and was denied later the same day.

The top court's decision followed the administration asked a federal appeals court this past Friday to stop a judicial directive requiring them to issue November’s entire Snap aid amid a federal closure.
Following that petition to halt was denied, the administration appealed to the high court in a new effort to prevent the ruling to pay for food stamp disbursements.
