McKenna's Position on Celtic

McKenna described the Glasgow giants as "a really big soccer institution" but emphasized he is "in the middle" of a "long-term project" with the Championship side.

The 39-year-old assumed control of Ipswich in 2021 and led them to the Premier League with back-to-back promotions, but they won just four games last campaign as they were demoted back to the Championship and they presently occupy 12th in England's second tier.

"There have been any of those conversations," the English capital native ex- Irish young player said when asked about being on the candidate list.

"This isn't a matter I have given any thought to, or where any portion of my focus is this week.

"I have a special job here at a remarkable club. And we're at a really important phase of the season. Everything external hasn't touched my awareness."

Background and Agreement Aspects

It has been suggested that the manager would be willing to talk to Celtic given his boyhood allegiances.

"During youth, we all have our affinities," he said when asked about those. "I don't think everyone has to go around and declare what they used to be, but of course it's a massive football club."

The coach signed a new four-year contract in last year and was asked about his alleged £5m release clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are provisions," he responded. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you regardless!

"I tackle this role like I'll be Ipswich manager indefinitely. I know that's not invariably going to be the situation, but I'll always give maximum effort as long as I remain in position."

The Welsh Coach's Situation

Bellamy represented the Hoops on temporary transfer from the Magpies in 2005, but the ex- Wales striker is inclined to finish the ongoing World Cup qualification, a stance that would practically eliminate the mid-forties from assuming the Celtic job.

Wales are currently third in their qualifying group behind group toppers Belgium and second-placed Macedonia.

Wins over the minnows and their rivals in next month would secure their position in the qualification play-offs, but they are all but guaranteed of making those, thanks to a productive European competition performance, even if they not finish as Group J second place.

Considering his present position, the Wales manager, whose agreement expires after Euro 2028, would be unavailable until following the qualifying matches at the minimum.
